Garner co-created and wrote all 66 webisodes of the web sitcom Hockey Strike, a series featuring two genius slacker geeks whose apartment seems to be the centre of the universe. One of the first video podcasts in Canada, it ran for over three years and gained an international audience of subscribers. It was voted 6th in Podcast Salad’s Top 10 video podcasts. The episode “Time Out” was featured on G4 Tech TV’s Torrent show.
Radio
Garner co-wrote, produced, engineered, and starred in the original radio comedy Post Modern: A Science Fiction Comedy of Near-Epic Proportions on CFRU-FM.
Episodic Television
Garner wrote an original spec episode of Corner Gas called “Violation,” in which Oscar goes to great lengths to fight a minor traffic ticket and Hank thinks he saw a UFO over Dog River. “Violation” won the 2008 Wildsound Spec TV Scriptwriting Competition and was performed live in front of an audience.
Garner wrote an original spec episode of Robot Chicken “Squeal Burp Zone.” Sketches included a Dora The Explorer / Lord of the Rings spoof.
Garner wrote an original spec episode of Toopy and Binoo called “The Land of Lost Things.” Toopy discovers one of his crayons is missing and they learn where all the lost things go. In the course of their adventure, they clean up Toopy’s room.
Screenwriting
Garner’s diverse portfolio includes feature length screenplays as well as original television scripts. For the big screen, Garner wrote: The Knight in Question: A dim-witted but eager knight and his stalwart companions accidentally save England. The Knight in Question was a semifinalist in the 2008 Wildsound First Act Scriptwriting Competition.
What Is This Thing Called Love?: An alien comes to Earth in the guise of a human woman to study love and falls in love with an Earth man as part of her research.
Blood Relations: When an adopted teen discovers he’s a werewolf, he seeks out his birth family, who force him to chose between the human world and the lycanthrope’s.
Garner created The Time Is Right, an original television series where contestants in a reality-show travel back in time to fix past mistakes while audience members cast their votes.
Background
Garner has been a writer, musician, composer and songwriter for 20 years, and performed both solo and with his band Tao Jones. His CDs, including Metaphysical Therapy, can be found in the National Archives of Canada. Garner also worked with Big City Improv providing live music for their performances. He also illustrates original children’s stories for author Rachelle Redford. Garner graduated from University of Guelph with a BA in Philosophy. He was a practicing Registered Massage Therapist for 6 years.
