Ben is a screenwriter who grew up in Pennsylvania Amish Country where he has dreamed of making movies since he was six years old. In his early 20s, he worked as a production assistant on major studio films like “Girl, Interrupted” starring Angelina Jolie and “Lucky Numbers” starring John Tavolta before moving to Los Angeles, where he now resides. He was a Creative World Awards Screenplay Finalist in September 2008. He has also been an Austin Film Festival Second Rounder, a Script Magazine Open Door Contest Second Round Finalist and a Scriptapalooza TV Finalist.
In his writing, Ben makes an effort to take an interdisciplinary approach, which is why his Bachelor's Degree from Millersville University is in English, not film.
“Mythological motifs and story-telling conventions have evolved over the course of human history,” he says. “Studying the classics has helped me write screenplays that respect the journey of heroes that have been written or told before.”
With that said, he is also a child of the “blockbuster era,” having grown up anticipating the latest Spielberg movie or big-budget special effects event film.
“For me, the focus is always on story but movies are a medium that allow for a huge, epic scope,” he said. “In addition to film, I love video games and roller-coaster rides so while I am very preoccupied with the structure of my work, I am also focused on giving the audience a true blockbuster experience.”
Ben signed with Hudson Agency in June of 2009 after his script “Captain Hook vs. Wonderland” was reviewed for consideration by Sue Giordano. He is currently at work on several projects the he hopes will push the boundaries of story-telling and the medium of film that he loves so much. |
