Biography
2007 has shaped into quite a year for screenwriter Kevin L. Caruso. Kevin received representation by Sue Giordano of Hudson Agency. In January, he received a 2007 Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council of the Arts for his war drama EXPOSURES OF WAR and was recognized for obtaining a rare perfect score, the only applicant to do so. In February, production began on location in Los Angeles on I TRIED, a film featuring hip-hop group Bone Thugs N Harmony. The film was co-written by Kevin. It was released direct-to-video by CodeBlack Entertainment on September 25, 2007 and became one of the fastest selling DVDs in the production company’s history.
His screenplay THE RUT won the 2007 Cinestory Screenwriting Competition. Another script RUNNING was not far behind, marking the first time two scripts from the same writer advanced to Cinestory’s finals. THE RUT was optioned in March to independent producer Sofia Akyinele.
Kevin has authored eleven scripts. He worked publicity and promotions for HIGH TIMES Magazine for five years. He created and produced its radio show, titled HIGH ON THE AIR, which ran on scores of college radio stations across the country and Canada. It's still being produced, without Kevin, as an Internet-only radio program. His screenplay SWEET LEAF is based on his experiences at the magazine.
In 2001, Kevin started the New Jersey Screenwriters Network, www.njscreenwriter.org, a collective of aspiring screenwriters who meet every other week to assist members in polishing their material. In six years, the group boasts ten active and prolific members. The group nurtures writers to hone the best scripts possible. Members’ scripts have since received options, sales, and the occasional competition win. In early 2007, member Chandus Jackson was awarded the Disney Fellowship for Screenwriting.
In 2005, he was hired to do rewrites for a proposed project by Independent Dream Machine, the production company behind 2005’s indie hit LOGGERHEADS.
